D a v i d S i l v a h . Partnering with the Gall D a v i d S i l v a h . Partnering with the Gallery since 2016, David’s iconic, Don Quixote’s are ever present in his collections. In the curated collection arriving soon, we see his hero in the many ways that Silvah sees him. . Many conversations have taken place over David’s paintings, and a recurring question is, just, “who is Don Quixote”? I have compiled a few wiki-notes and a quote from The Novel Book Club who partnered with Silvah and one of his Quixote paintings. — Don Quixote is a Spanish novel written by Miguel de Cervantes. ...published in two parts, in 1605 and 1615. A founding work of Western literature and often labeled "the first modern novel”. Many consider it, the best literary work ever written. So does David. — Quixote, himself, is so eloquently described by The Novel Book Club (2017): The book “deals with someone who creates an alternative reality for himself. He isn’t a declining old man, he’s a knight. He doesn’t ride a nag, he rides an impressive war steed. And the object of his devotion isn’t a prostitute, she’s a queen. There are a poignancy and melancholy to the story that explains why it has endured...” . If you haven’t seen the works of David Silvah you are missing out. R o b e r t A. N e l s o n . Bob, who was born R o b e r t A. N e l s o n . Bob, who was born in 1925, has long been fascinated and inspired by the 19th and early 20th century Science Fiction. A recurring theme can be seen in his Spaceman Series. One such piece was released from Nelson’s, “Private Collection” for this year's exhibit which is going on now. This pencil collage from 1970 is the theme’s title, “Spaceman Series”. The artwork is 27 x 16 and is beautifully framed with overall dimensions of 34.5 x 23.5 x 1.25. The additional images are of “Gold Venus” which resides in a Private Collection in Oregon. Out of all I’ve seen from this series, the current piece reminded me of this past treasure from the days of the fabulous Beppu Wiarda Gallery. I hope you enjoy it! Carlos Gamez de Franciso “I was born in post-re Carlos Gamez de Franciso “I was born in post-revolutionary Cuba in 1987, and educated in an academic setting heavily governed by the Russian Academy. This frame of reference is evident in all of my work. To deny my experiences, perceptions and the impact of history would be disregarding my own existence. These influences are the lens through which I create and the motivation that propels me. Cuban history has guided me in a variety of ways. On the one hand, it allows me to rethink the way storytelling is part of our memories. On the other, it allows me to question the accuracy of history and its telling. This conflict absorbed me during my early years and continues to engage me as I complete my artistic education. Currently, this near-obsession with the past translates into figures, scenarios, and most importantly, the recreation of my own stories. In Cuba, I was exposed to figurative arts by the presence of the Russian Academy. This presence, as well as the censorship of contemporary art and the limited access to information, was the accepted dogma. Consequently, I understood that decontextualizing epochs and artistic symbols was the tool I could use to establish a connection between the present and the past. The resulting work provides an escape from reality and creates an illusory world. I am more fascinated in altering history than depicting it accurately.” ~ Carlos .
